Objective To analyze the sleep initiation patterns and sleep problems of infants and young children, and understand the influence of sleep initiation patterns on sleep problems. Methods Infants and young children aged 6-35 months, who underwent medical inspection in the Department of Child Health Care of Kunming Children's Hospital from June 2022 to May 2023,were enrolled.Their parents complete the brief infant sleep questionnaire(BISQ)and the general information questionnaire. The influencing factors for sleep initiation patterns were evaluated by a multivariate Logistic regression analy-sis.The influence of sleep initiation patterns on the number of nighttime awakenings was evaluated by a multiple linear re-gression analysis was used to evaluate. Results The most common way for infants and young children aged 6-35 months to sleep initiation patterns is through breastfeeding(41.2% ),and 32.5% initiated sleep accompanied by parents. The incidence of sleep problems in infants and young children was 51.8% .The highest incidence is difficulty in falling asleep(31.0% ),fol-lowed by nocturnal awake(24.0% )and sleep rhythm disorder(15.3% ).The univariate factor analysis showed that age and children with breastfeeding were associated with sleep initiation patterns(P<0.01).As the age increases, the proportion of breastfeeding sleep decreases.Logistic regression analysis showed that infants and young children with a younger age were more likely to be breastfed/bottle fed and rocked/held to initiate sleep(P<0.05).The multiple linear regression analysis showed that sleep initiation by being breastfed/bottle fed,and rocked/held increased the number of nighttime awakenings(P<0.05).Conclusion Most infants and young children initiate sleep by being breastfed/bottle fed, accompanied and rocked/held.And the incidence of sleep problems is high.It is recommended to strengthen the propaganda and education of sleep habits among infants and young children, early quit unhealthy sleep habits, cultivate independent sleep for infants and young children, and reduce the occurrence of sleep problems.
