Current status of gestational diabetes mellitus and iron metabolism
Gestational diabetes mellitus is a common complication of pregnancy, with a global standardized preva-lence of 14.0%.Prevention of GDM is of great significance to global public health.Iron homeostasis is critical during preg-nancy.High ferritin levels are associated with an increased risk of GDM,but low ferritin levels may lead to complications such as anemia and pregnancy-induced hypertension. At present, iron supplementation during pregnancy in GDM patients has been controversial.More evidence is needed to assess ferritin levels during pregnancy and develop personalized iron supplementa-tion programs to prevent iron deficiency while avoiding iron overload and increased risk of GDM.Therefore,on the basis of summarizing the latest research on the correlation between the two, this paper increases the influence of ferritin and iron sup-plements on GDM,and updates the correlation between GDM and iron metabolism, ferritin level and iron supplement, aiming to provide reference for clinical prevention and treatment of GDM.
