Sinopodophyllum hexandrum was a kind of national protected wild plant in grade Ⅱ.The podophyllotoxin(PTOX)in its roots and stems had strong anti-tumor activity,which was a precursor compound of a variety of anticancer drugs,and had important medicinal and economic value.In recent years,important progress had been made in the study of S.hexandrum.In this paper,the research prog-ress in the field of distribution of suitable habitat and physiological ecology,characteristics of chloro-plast genome,metabolic regulation of PTOX,tissue and cell culture,and medical research of S.hexan-drum were reviewed.The prospect in the fields were also discussed.
