Objective:To investigate the current status, population dynamics, and distribution patterns of Acer miaotaiense in Duheyuan Nature Reserve,Hubei, and to provide a scientific basis for the con-servation of the species. Methods:The study involved compiling a static life table, drawing survival curves, mortality and disappearance rate curves, and analyzing the population age class quantity and dynamic characteristics.Time series were used to predict future population trends.Univariate pairwise correlation functions were employed to analyze the spatial distribution patterns of the population. Results:The population of A.miaotaiense exhibited an irregular pyramidal shape, indicating growth, but it was also highly sensitive to external disturbances. The survival curve of the population was of the Deevey-Ⅱ type.Mortality and disappearance rates increased sharply and then decreased steeply before gradually increasing again, with peak values at the Ⅲ age class. The survival rate of the population de-creased with increasing age class, while the cumulative mortality rate increased. The population started to decline after the Ⅲ age class. The future individual number of the population would increase with the age class but would decrease as the span of the age class experienced increases. The population exhibit-ed a clumped distribution at a 0.5 m scale, but overall it was randomly distributed at different scales. Conclusion:The natural regeneration ability of A.miaotaiense was weak, and a low seed germination rate might be the key reason for the lack of seedlings. In population conservation practices, priority should be given to protecting the natural habitat of A.miaotaiense to ensure gradual population recov-ery.Efforts should be made to strengthen efforts in artificial breeding to enhance the species'reproduc-tive capacity.
