Effect of Tai Chi on self-control of female Substance Use Disorders
Objective:To study the effects of Tai Chi on the self-control ability of female substance use disorders (SUDs) and to provide a theoretical and practical basis for exercise intervention in the field of addiction treatment. Methods:The 12 participants in this research were recruited from Shanghai Female Compulsory Detoxification and Rehabilitation Center from April to July 2023. The Stroop paradigm,Go/Nogo paradigm, and the wall squat test were analyzed to compare the changes in the self-control of subjects before and after tai chi intervention. Results:In the Go/Nogo paradigm, the accuracy of the post-test was significantly higher than the baseline (P<0.05);in the Stroop paradigm, the accuracy of the post-test was better than the baseline, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05);in the wall squat test, the decline rate of the post-test was significantly lower than the baseline (P<0.05). Conclusion:After 12 weeks of Tai Chi intervention, the results of the participants' cognitive and behavioral self-control ability tests improved to varying degrees compared with the baseline, which proved that Tai Chi training can promote the self-control ability of female SUDs. Therefore,Tai Chi is recommended as a routine therapeutic rehabilitation method in drug rehabilitation centers.
