Effect of budesonide infiltration and nasal spray therapy assisted functional nasal endoscopy on NMCA and NCV in patients with chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps
Objective To investigate the effects of budesonide infiltration and nasal spray assisted func-tional endoscopic surgery on Nasal Minimal Cross-sectional Area(NMCA)and Nasal Cavity Volume(NCV)in pa-tients with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps, and to analyze the complications. Methods A total of 85 patients with chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps from Dengzhou Central Hospital from October 2019 to October 2022 were selected for retrospective analysis.According to the treatment methods, they were divided into group A(42 cases, treated with nasal endoscopic surgery)and group B(43 cases, treated with budes-onide infiltration therapy under the same treatment as group A patients).Symptom improvement scores, olfactory function scores, ciliary clearance rate and clearance speed, nasal ventilation function indicators, complications and recurrence were compared between the two groups. Results Two months after treatment, the scores of nasal con-gestion,rhinorrhea and headache in both groups decreased compared to before treatment, and the scores in group B were lower than in group A(P<0.05).Two months after treatment, the olfactory function scores of both groups de-creased compared to before treatment, and the scores in group B were lower than those in group A(P<0.05).The ciliary clearance rate and ciliary clearance speed increased compared to before treatment, and these indicators in group B were higher than those in group A(P<0.05).NMCA and NCV in both groups increased compared to before treatment, and these indicators in group B increased were higher than those in group A(P<0.05).Furthermore,compared to before treatment, the distance of the minimal cross-sectional area from the nostril(DCAN)and nasal airway resistance decreased in both groups.Notably, these indicators were lower in group B compared to group A.The total complication rate in group B was 7%,which was lower than the 19%in group A(P>0.05).The recur-rence rate in group B was 5%,which was lower than the 21%in group A(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of budesonide infiltration and nasal spray in the treatment of patients with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps as an adjuvant to functional nasal endoscopic surgery can significantly improve the olfactory function and nasal ventila-tion function, reduce complications, and lower the recurrence rates. This therapeutic approach exhibits remarkable effectiveness.
