Effects of Fupi Wenshen Decoction on alveolar bone changes, tooth displacement degree and inflammatory factors in gingival crevicular fluid during orthodontic treatment
Objective To analyze the effects of Fupi Wenshen Decoction on alveolar bone changes, tooth displacement degree, and inflammatory factors in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF)during orthodontic treatment for patients with spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome. Methods A total of 46 patients with spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome who underwent orthodontic treatment at Xiangfen County People's Hospital from September 2020 to September 2021 were included in the study. They were divided into two groups, the control group and the study group, according to different treatment methods. The control group(n=23)received orthodontic treatment(uniformly using straight wire archwire appliances),while the study group(n=23)received oral Fupi Wenshen Decoction treatment in addition to the same treatment as the control group.Comparisons were made between the two groups in terms of alveolar bone changes, tooth displacement degree, periodontal indicators, and the detection values of interleukin-1 β(IL-1β),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),and prostaglandin E2(PGE2)in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF).Results For the same group, there was no significant difference in alveolar bone thickness between before and after treatment(P>0.05).After treatment, the maxillary and mandibular arch widths in the study group were larger than those in the control group(P<0.05).The plaque index(PLI),gingival index(GI),and the levels of IL-1 β,TNF-α,and PGE2 in GCF were lower after treatment compared with before treatment(P<0.05),and they were lower in the study group than in the control group(P<0.05),the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion The Fupi Wenshen Decoction can not increase the thickness of alveolar bone in patients with spleen-kidney Yang deficiency during orthodontic treatment, but can promote tooth movement, improve periodontal status, and reduce inflammatory reactions.
