Effects of sinus medication stent on postoperative inflammatory cytokine levels and nasal mucosal function in patients with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps
Objective To observe the effects of sinus medication stent on postoperative inflammatory cy-tokine levels and nasal mucosal function in patients with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps(CRSwNP).Methods According to different treatment methods,a total of 84 CRSwNP patients treated in Zhoukou Central Hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 were divided into a control group and an observation group, with 42 cases in each group. Both groups were treated with functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS).The control group was treated with oral corticosteroids after FESS,while the observation group was treated with sinus medication stent after FESS.The severity of the condition, severity of symptoms, severity of inflammation, nasal mucosal function, quality of life,in-flammatory factors, and adverse reactions were compared between two groups. Results The postoperative Lund Kennedy score,Lund Mackay score,Visual Analog Scale(VAS)score, and levels of IFN-y,IL-2,and IL-6 in both groups were lower than before surgery; The cilia clearance rate was higher than before surgery;Postoperative psychological and emotional scores, clinical symptom scores, and daily living activity scores were all lower than preoperative scores; The overall health score was higher than before surgery, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the use of sinus medication stent for treatment, the psychological and emo-tional scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group[(3.49±1.02)points vs(4.13±1.50)points],and the overall health score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group[(9.55±1.74)points vs(8.52±2.02)points].The total incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was lower than that of the control group[(2.4%)vs(19.0%)],and the above differences were statistically significant(t=2.287,2.504,P=0.025、0.014;x2=4.480,P=0.034).There was no statistically significant difference in postoperative Lund Kennedy score,Lund Mackay score,VAS score, and levels of IFN-γ,IL-2,and IL-6 between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Oral corticosteroids and sinus drug stent implantation after FESS surgery are equally effective in CRSwNP,both of which can control the condition of patients, reduce inflammation, improve nasal mucosal function and clinical symptoms. However, sinus medication stent has fewer adverse reactions and can improve the life quality of patients.
