Effects of Yaobitong capsule combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty on bone metabolism indicators,lumbar spine function,and lower back pain in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures
Objective To explore the influence of Yaobitong capsules combined with percutaneous verte-broplasty (PVP) on bone metabolism indexes,lumbar function and low back pain in patients with osteoporotic ver-tebral compression fracture (OVCF).Methods The clinical data of 120 patients with OVCF who were treated with PVP in Taizhou Central Hospital(Taizhou University Hospital),were retrospectively analyzed from April 2022 to April 2024.According to the treatment methods,the control group (n=54) was treated with (osteotriol pills and calcium carbonate D3),while the observation group (n=66) was treated with Yaobitong capsules on the basis of the drugs used in the control group.The clinical efficacy and medication safety were evaluated.The degree of low back pain[Numerical Rating Scale (NRS)]and lumbar function[Oswestry Disability Index (ODI)]before and after treatment were observed.Bone mineral density (BMD),bone metabolism indexes[procollagen type I C-terminal peptide (PICP),carboxy-terminal β-collagen type I peptide (β-CTx),N-terminal midfragment of osteocalcin (N-MID)]and inflammatory factors[interleukin (IL)-1β,IL-6,tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α]were measured before and after treatment.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05).After 8 weeks of treatment,both groups showed significantly higher levels of lumbar L1~4 and left femoral neck BMD,serum PⅠCP,and N-MID compared to 1 day after surgery,while the serum β-CTx levels were lower than those on 1 day after surgery (P<0.05).The lumbar spine BMD,serum PⅠCP and N-MID levels of the observation group were higher than those of the control group,and the serum β-CTx level was lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).After 8 weeks of treatment,the levels of IL-1β,IL-6,and TNF-α in both groups were lower than before treatment,and the observation group was significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05).At 4 and 8 weeks of treatment,the NRS and ODI scores of both groups were lower than before treatment,and the NRS and ODI scores of the ob-servation group at these time points were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Yaobitong capsules combined with western medicine can effec-tively relieve low back pain and improve lumbar function in patients with OVCF after PVP.Its efficacy is better than that of western medicine alone,and its role mechanism may be related to the regulations of bone metabolism indexes and inflammatory factors.
