Application of compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder combined with simethicone in bowel preparation for colonoscopy and its effect on lesion detection rate
Objective To explore the application effect of compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte pow-der combined with simethicone in bowel preparation for colonoscopy. Methods A retrospective analysis was con-ducted on a total of 300 patients who underwent colonoscopy at Jinhua People's Hospital from January to Decem-ber 2023.According to different intervention methods, they were divided into routine intervention group ( n=166,compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder) and combined intervention group ( n=134,compound polyethy-lene glycol electrolyte powder combined with simethicone). The endoscope placement time, removal time, total ex-amination time, scores and total score of Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) at different intestinal segments, the incidence of adverse reactions, the detection rate of intestinal adenoma, the detection rate of serrated lesions and the detection rate of early colon cancer were compared. Results The insertion time, withdrawal time and total time of examination in the combined intervention group were (7.0±1.6) min,(7.1±1.1) min and (13.5±1.7) min,re-spectively.It was significantly shorter than that of the conventional intervention group ( t=13.740,15.653,19.619;all P<0.01);At the same time, the BBPS scores and total scores of patients in different intestinal segments in the combined intervention group were significantly higher(t=14.990,12.698,6.884,38.763;all P<0.01).Finally,the comparison results showed that the incidence of adverse reactions in the combined intervention group was signifi-cantly lower, and the difference was statistically significant ( X2=6.139;P=0.013).At the same time, the colonoscopy results of the above two groups of subjects were compared with the final pathological examination re-sults.The detection rate of intestinal adenoma, the detection rate of serrated lesions, and the detection rate of ear-ly colon cancer in the combined intervention group were higher than those in the conventional intervention group. The difference was statistically significant (X2=3.972,4.886,4.062;P=0.046,0.027,0.044).Conclusion The combination of compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder and silicone oil can shorten the colonoscopy ex-amination time, improve the Boston bowel preparation score, and reduce the incidence of adverse reactions, which has high application value.
