Research Progress on Ferroptosis and Infertility-related Diseases
Infertility refers to the inability of a couple to conceive after at least one year of normal unprotected sexual intercourse.Ferroptosis is a new form of programmed death characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation damage to membrane structures, which in turn causes cell oxidative stress and death. Its sensitivity is affected by various metabolic processes, such as iron metabolism, lipid metabolism, oxidative stress and glutathione biosynthesis.Multiple studies have shown that ferroptosis is involved in the occurrence and development of infertility-related diseases such as polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),endometriosis, and endometritis. This article reviews the biological characteristics and mechanisms of ferroptosis and its research progress in infertility-related diseases, with a view to providing new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility-related diseases.
