Effect of Midazolam Oral Solution on Reducing Preoperative Anxiety and Postoperative Agitation in Children Undergoing Surgery
Objective:To observe the effect of Midazolam given to children before surgery on preoperative anxiety and postoperative agitation.Method:A total of 100 children who received surgical treatment in Quanzhou First Hospital from January 2022 to January 2023 were included in the study and divided into control group and observation group according to random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. The control group took oral glucose 30 min before surgery, and the observation group took oral Midazolam Oral Solution 30 min before surgery. The vital sign indexes[heart rate(HR),mean arterial pressure(MAP)]before medication(T0),3 min before entering the room(T1),and 30 min after anesthesia induction(T2),preoperative anxiety[modified Yale preoperative anxiety scale(m-YPAS)],postoperative agitation[pediatric anesthesia emergence delirium(PEAD)scale]and adverse reactions in children were observed.Result:MAP and HR in the observation group at T1 and T2 were lower than those at T0,and at T1,MAP and HR in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and at T2,MAP and HR in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After medication, all the scores of m-YPAS in the observation group were decreased, and all the scores were lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After surgery, each item score of PEAD in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:Midazolam given to children before surgery can alleviate preoperative anxiety and postoperative agitation, improve the quality of anesthesia, help stabilize the vital sign of children, and do not increase the risk of adverse reactions.
