The Safety and Impact on Thyroid Function of Bailing Capsules Combined with Methimazole in the Treatment of Elderly Hyperthyroidism
Objective:To investigate the effect of Bailing Capsule combined with Methimazole in the treatment of elderly hyperthyroidism.Method:A total of 94 cases with elderly hyperthyroidism treated in Tai'an Maternal and Child Health Hospital from December 2020 to December 2022 were selected and divided into 47 cases each in the control group(Methimazole)and the observation group(combined with Bailing Capsule)by the randomized table method.Both groups were treated for 28 days.The total effective rate,thyroid function[free thyroid triiodothyronine(FT3),free thyroxine(FT4),thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH),parathyroid hormone(PTH)],serum cytokines[interleukin-4(IL-4),interleukin-17(IL-17),transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β),interferon-γ(IFN-γ),oxidative stress level[superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA),glutathione peroxidase(GPX)],and incidence of adverse reactions in two groups were compared.Result:The total effective rate of the control group was lower than that of the observation group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Before treatment,there were no statistically significant differences in FT3,FT4,TSH and PTH levels between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment,the levels of FT3,FT4 and PTH in the two groups were decreased,and levels of TSH in the two groups were increased;the levels of FT3,FT4 and PTH in the control group were higher than those in the observation group,and TSH was lower than that in the observation group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Before treatment,there were no statistically significant differences in the levels of IL-4,IL-17,TGF-β and IFN-γ between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment,the levels of IL-4,IL-17 and IFN-γ in the two groups were decreased,and the levels of TGF-β in the two groups were increased;the levels of IL-4,IL-17 and IFN-γ in the observation group were lower than those in the control group,and the level of TGF-β was higher than that in the control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Before treatment,there were no statistically significant differences in SOD,MDA and GPX levels between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment,MDA in the two groups decreased,SOD and GPX increased,MDA in the control group was higher than that in the observation group,SOD and GPX were lower than those in the observation group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the control group and the observation group(P>0.05).Conclusion:Elderly patients with hyperthyroidism can be treated with Bailing Capsule combined with Methimazole,which can improve thyroid function,reduce inflammatory response,improve the anti-oxidative stress ability,and have higher safety.
