Progress in the Application of Ultrasound Technology in Stroke Related to Patent Foramen Ovale
Patent foramen ovale-related stroke(PFO-AS)refers to ischemic stroke that is highly correlated with patent foramen ovale(PFO)and has no other definitive cause. In recent years,a number of multi-center big data studies have confirmed that PFO is closely related to some neurological and cardiovascular system diseases, especially stroke caused by unknown causes. At the same time,PFO has a high incidence in the population. Therefore, early detection and prevention of PFO-AS can significantly reduce the incidence, disability rate and mortality rate of ischemic stroke.Ultrasound technology is particularly suitable for displaying and evaluating cardiac structure and function due to its advantages of real-time dynamics, economy, speed, safety, repeatability, and diverse imaging methods. This review will evaluate the diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy of multiple ultrasound techniques in PFO,and discuss the new progress of ultrasound technology in the treatment of PFO-AS.
