Relationship between the Neuropsychological Development Outcome of Preterm Infants Corrected for 6-month-old with DHA Supplementation and Breastfeeding
Objective:To explore the relationship between the neuropsychological development outcome of corrected 6-month-old preterm infants and DHA supplementation and breastfeeding. Method:From January 2022 to October 2023,332 eligible preterm infants with gestational age of 28 to 36 weeks+6 were selected from Jiangxi Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and followed up to the mean correction age of (6.44±0.29) months. The developmental quotient (DQ) and intelligence index (MI) of 0-6 year old children were evaluated using the neuropsychological development scale (DST). Preterm infants were divided into normal group (285 cases) and abnormal or suspicious group (47 cases) according to the measured neuropsychological development results. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were carried out in the two groups of preterm infants to analyze the influencing factors on the neuropsychological development outcome of corrected 6-month-old preterm infants. Result:Univariate analysis showed that there were no significant differences in gender, gestational age, birth weight, place of residence, maternal age, mode of delivery, digestive system structure or function abnormalities, and anemia between the two groups (P>0.05). The proportions of exclusive breastfeeding and DHA supplementation in normal group were higher than those in abnormal or suspicious group, and the proportions of pregnancy complications, lung dysplasia and nervous system abnormalities were lower than those in abnormal and suspicious group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The results of multi-factor analysis showed that abnormal nervous system and no DHA supplement were the risk factors for abnormal neuropsychological development of preterm infants, and exclusive breastfeeding was the protective factor for abnormal neuropsychological development of preterm infants (P<0.05). Conclusion:There is a certain correlation between the neuropsychological development outcome of corrected 6-month-old preterm infants and exclusive breastfeeding, neurological abnormalities and no DHA supplementation.
