Analysis of the current situation and influencing factors of medical students'use of the new media platforms for learning in the context of education digitization
Objective To analyze the current situation and influencing factors of medical stu-dents'use of new media platforms for academic learning in the context of education digitalization and provide evidence for the rational use of new media platforms to promote the development of medical education. Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the status of medical stu-dents'use of new media platforms, and analyzed the influencing factors. Results Among the 214 medical students surveyed,197(92.1%)had used new media platforms for academic learning, and 17(7.9%)had never used them.Among the new media platforms commonly used by medical stu-dents,the proportion of using online education platforms of universities was the lowest(only 49.7%).Factors that students mainly paid attention to when using new media platforms for academic learning were the richness of learning resources(80.7%),the correctness and authority of the content(68.0%),and the charging mechanism of the platforms(68.0%).Students thought the biggest advantage of new media platforms was that they could share massive learning resources(75.6%),and the biggest disad-vantage was that the quality of content on new media platforms was uneven and could not guarantee the authority of knowledge(80.7%).Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that compared with female students, students of non-985 or 211 universities and students with poor academic perfor-mance,male students, students of 985 and 211 universities and students with excellent or good aca-demic performance were more likely to use new media platforms for academic learning. The ORs(95%CIs)were 18.05(1.54~211.40),18.06(2.87~113.83),35.60(3.28~386.48),and 44.97(4.14~488.77),respectively.Conclusion Under the background of digital education, most medical students have used new media platforms for professional-related learning. However, the utilization rate of universities'online education platforms is low.It is suggested that universities'online educa-tion platforms should be optimized and improved combining students'gender, learning basis,universi-ties'characteristics,so as to ensure the quality and authority of content to promote the comprehensive development of medical education.
