Survey on residents'competency after completing standardized training and study on problems in the construction of progressive teaching system
Objective To investigate the competency of resident physicians after completing standardized training in the Emergency Department, and develop targeted hierarchical and progressive training plans based on the feedback to construct a comprehensive teaching quality assurance system. Methods 73 residents in the class of 2018 from Dalian Medical University, who had completed the standardized training, were selected as the research objects and divided into the experimental group(36 residents trained by post competency-based teaching mode)and the control group(37 residents trained by traditional teaching mode).Within 6 months after these residents were graduated and em-ployed,a questionnaire survey was conducted to learn about their post competency.Through statisti-cal analysis, problems were summarized in the teaching and learning process and corresponding coun-termeasures were proposed. Results In terms of the scores of questionnaire survey of residents'post competency, the basic clinical skills(8.43±1.35),professional spirit and literacy(7.83±1.21),doctor-patient communication ability(8.19±1.42),mastery and application of knowledge(8.53±1.41),teamwork ability(8.23±1.54),basic public health service ability(7.78±1.25)and information and management abilility(7.93±1.16)of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, which were(7.32±1.22),(6.92±1.14),(7.21±1.26),(7.12±1.35),(7.18±1.19),(6.72±1.13),and(6.85±1.12),respectively(all P<0.05).In the aspects of the scores of questionnaire survey of residents'teaching ability, relevant professional rank as well as clinical skill operation, the experi-mental group obtained higher score in relevant professional knowledge(8.41±1.33)than the control group, which was(6.91±1.22),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference between the experimental group's teaching ability(6.12±1.27)and clinical skill operation(7.21±1.36)and the control group's teaching ability(5.87±1.15)and clinical skill(6.95±1.13)(all P>0.05).Conclusion The application of post competency-based teaching mode can effectively improve residents'clinical ability,as well as enhance their recognition. However,it does not perform well in cultivating residents'teaching and research ability, which should be specially trained in the future clinical teaching.
