Oxidative Stress and Potential Antioxidant Therapies in Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata(AA)is an autoimmune skin disorder characterized by non-scarring hair loss.Despite the immune privilege(IP)failure of hair follicles(HF)being considered a primary driving factor in AA,the exact pathogenic mechanism remains unclear.Other factors such as genetic predisposition,allergies,microbial flora,andpsychological stress also play significant roles in the occurrence and development of AA.Oxidative stress(OS),an imbalance between oxidation and antioxidant defense systems,plays a crucial role in skin diseases.The purpose of this review is to elucidate the role of OS in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of AA,discussing relevant biomarkers,and potential antioxidant therapeutic approaches.
