Alopecia areata(AA)is a common disorder characterized by non-scarring hair loss.The condition of patients with wild clinical manifestations is self-limited.However,severe AA not only undergoes a long course,but also is associated with unpredictable recurrence and multiple comorbidities.Therefore,the treatment of severe cases is faced with giant challenges,which poses a tremendous physical and emotional burden on patients.This article aims to discuss the treatment and long-term management strategies of AA in order to improve the quality of life of patients.
