Progress in Intervention of Transcription Dysregulation in Atopic Dermatitis by Active Ingredients of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Atopic dermatitis(AD)is a chronic, inflammatory and systemic skin disease, which involves dry, itchy and eczema-like skin lesions.Currently, the mechanisms of AD pathogenesis remain undear.Excessive expression of Th2 cytokines, which are triggered by genetic susceptibility, environmental antigens and immune disorders,is considered as the major cause of AD.Therefore, targeting of Th2 signaling to repress expression of Th2 cytokines is the leading filed in AD therapy and drug development. In China, the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has been used for treating AD for over centuries and shown therapeutic effect. In the past decades, the ingredients with anti-inflammation activities in TCM have been exploring and revealing. It also has been suggested that the active ingredients exert their anti-inflammation effects through repression of Th2 cytokines transcription. Here, this paper reviews the TCM ingredients which improve AD skin lesions and potentially regulate the Th2 cytokines transcription.
