Research of Botulinum Toxin Type A on Improving Post-Inflammatory Pigmentation(PIH)
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation(PIH)is a common skin issue characterized by abnormal darkening of the skin in areas damaged by inflammation or injury.Despite various PIH treatment methods, such as topical or oral medications, chemical peels, and phototherapy, the efficacy remains limited.Recent studies have found that many patients undergoing botulinum toxin injections for facial wrinkles experienced increased skin brightness and l ightening of skin tone alongside wrinkle improvement, though the specific mechanism is unclear. This article reviews the recent research progress of type A botulinum toxin in treating PIH,exploring its potential mechanisms of action, clinical efficacy, and future research directions to provid new treatment options for PIH patients.
