Objective To explore an undergraduate education mode suitable for the training of pharmaceutical care talents in China.Methods The training programs of undergraduates majoring in clinical pharmacy of 10 higher education institutions in China(Shandong University,Shanghai Jiao Tong University,Sichuan University;Anhui Medical University,Harbin Medical University,Southern Medical University,Tianjin Medical University,Nanjing Medical University;China Pharmaceutical University,Shenyang Pharmaceutical University)from 2018 to 2021 were collected and classified,including curriculum,class hour and credit programs.The curriculum systems related to the training of pharmaceutical care skills were compared and analyzed.A questionnaire survey was conducted among the undergraduate students of grades 2018 to 2022 majoring in clinical pharmacy at the West China School of Pharmacy,Sichuan University to investigate their understanding,evaluation,and needs for the current training program.Results Among the 10 higher education institutions,the Nanjing Medical University had the most total credits and total class hours of clinical pharmacy training programs(290 credits and 3 886 class hours),it also had the most credits and class hours of compulsory courses(209 credits and 3 562 class hours).The Sichuan University had the most credits of elective courses(35 credits).The medical institutions had more class hours of theoretical courses,with the Southern Medical University having the most(2 910 class hours);the Sichuan University,China Pharmaceutical University and Shandong University had more class hours of practical courses,with the Sichuan University having the most(1 332 class hours).The graduation practice in all higher education institutions was up to 42 weeks,except for the Shanghai Jiao Tong University whose practice duration could not be counted.The China Pharmaceutical University and Sichuan University had more pharmaceutical care-related courses,with 14 courses(494 class hours)and 14 courses(424 class hours)respectively,and both theoretical and practical teaching was considered.A total of 149 questionnaires were distributed and 141 were effectively collected.Students majoring in clinical pharmacy at the Sichuan University were generally satisfied with the training program and pharmaceutical care-related courses(satisfaction rates were both over 70%),but there were still 24.11%of students thought that there were too many theoretical courses and too few practical courses.Conclusion There are great differences in the training programs for undergraduate students majoring in clinical pharmacy among the adove 10 higher education institutions,and they all lack a systemic curriculum structure for pharmaceutical care skill training.It is suggested that with the goal of pharmaceutical care competence,higher education institutions should improve the construction of the undergraduate practical curriculum system for clinical pharmacy,add interdisciplinary and cross-professional practical courses,build a pharmaceutical care course group,and integrate the training of pharmaceutical care skills throughout the undergraduate education to construct an undergraduate education mode suitable for the training of pharmaceutical care talents in China.
