Clinical Research Progress on Metronomic Chemotherapy in Elderly Patients with Tumor
Objective To summarize the clinical research progress on metronomic chemotherapy in the treatment of elderly patients with tumor. Methods Literature related to clinical research on metronomic chemotherapy in the treatment of elderly patients with tumor in the PubMed,Web of Science,The Cochrane Library,CNKI,and VIP databases from their inception to March 1,2023 was searched to summarize the research progress from the mechanism and clinical application. Results Metronomic chemotherapy has definite survival benefits for elderly patients with non-small cell lung cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer or other cancers through multiple pathways, including inhibiting tumor angiogenesis, regulating immune response, inducing tumor cell dormancy, and reducing tumor cell resistance. Conclusion Metronomic chemotherapy is effective and safe in the treatment of elderly patients with tumor, which can provide a new approach for posterior or even first-line treatment, but it still needs to be validated through larger clinical studies.
