Application Effect of Root Cause Analysis Method in the Management of Automated Tablet Dispensing & Packaging System
Objective To improve the working performance and drug management level of automated tablet dispensing & packaging system(ATDPS).Methods Root cause analysis(RCA)was used to analyze the proximal and root causes of problems in the operation of the ATDPS in the inpatient pharmacy, and corresponding improvement measures were formulated. The daily average number of sub-packages,daily dispensing time, daily bag overflow, monthly average package errors, monthly average number and proportion of unsalable drugs in the ATDPS,and monthly average patients'satisfaction in seven wards before(from March to May 2023)and after(from June to August 2023)the implementation of RCA method were compared. Results After the implementation of RCA method, the daily average number of overflowing bags, the monthly average packaging errors, the monthly average number of unsalable drugs, and the monthly average proportion of unsalable drugs in the ATDPS were 0 bags,(3.48±0.94)cases,(6.67±1.16)cases,and(1.14±0.20)%,which were significantly lower than(5.20±1.82)bags,(7.86±2.29)cases,(16.00±1.00)cases,and(2.73±0.17)%before the implementation(P<0.05).Conclusion Application of the RCA method in the management of ATDPS in the inpatient pharmacy can improve the quality and efficiency of sub-packaged drugs, and enhance the management level of inpatient pharmacy.
