Estonian Project Progress and Experience in Personalized Medicine
The development of personalized medicine has attracted much attention in the international community, and it has gradu-ally become one of the new research hotspots.Personalized medicine aims to implement a new medical practice to diagnose and treat dis-eases using personal medical information including health behaviors, medical test results, symptoms, family history, environmental fac-tors and genomic information. It transform medical practice from reactive treatment to preventive care by adopting a more personalized approach, targeted screening protocols, early intervention and treatment to improve patient health. This personalized approach helps to detect and deal with health problems in advance, rather than waiting until the disease appears before treatment. As a member of the Inter-national Consortium for Personalized Medicine(ICPerMed),Estonia has extensive experience in the field of personalized medicine.Since the 21st century, the Estonian government has vigorously developed the field of healthcare, laying the foundation for the develop-ment of personalized medicine. In Europe,Estonia has spearheaded the nationwide initiative to establish a population-based Estonian biobank that includes the mapping of diseases to their biomarkers and patients'lifestyles, facilitating the study of common diseases and traits. This article mainly introduces Estonia's projects completed in the field of personalized medicine in the past ten years and summa-rizes its experience,so as to provide reference for the development of precision medicine in China.
