Qi and xue are the physical foundation that constitutes the human body and maintains human life activities. They are physi-ologically interdependent and can transform into each other,as well as being pathologically involved and interactive.Qi and xue theory occupies a dominant position in the traditional Chinese medicine system and long-term theoretical practice, but its concept is macro-scopic and abstract, making it difficult to understand and apply.Mutual learning between Chinese and western medicine is advocated in modern society. Many scholars have studied qi and xue from the perspective of Chinese and western medicine, however,a deeper and more systematic understanding of the relationship between qi and xue is still lacking.Sorting out the cognition and relationship between qi and xue in Chinese and western medicine is of great significance to the clinical understanding and treatment of diseases by integrating Chinese and western medicine. This study explores the understanding and relationship of qi and xue from different perspectives of tradi-tional Chinese medicine and Western medicine.Taking qi and xue of traditional Chinese and western medicine as the research objects respectively, combined with the physiological functions of qi and xue,it is believed that qi in traditional Chinese medicine is associated to stem cells, intrathoracic pressure, mitochondria, nutrients, nerves, and immunity.Meanwhile, xue is related to blood in modern medicine, which are relevant in many aspects such as function, physiology, pathogenesis, etc. This study is expected to provide refer-ence for better understanding of the concept of qi and xue and serving the clinical application of traditional Chinese and western medicine.
