A study on the resource utilization status and limited catching capacity of the Lagocephalus in the Northern South China Sea
According to the sampling survey data of fishery production from fishing ports along the Northern South China Sea from 2008 to 2022,the resources of Lagocephalus are evaluated. The production of Lagocephalus mainly consists of trawl net, gill net, purse seine and miscellaneous gears, accounting for 46.90%,39.69%,5.19%and 8.22%of the total catch, respectively.Eighteen CPUE data are analyzed by surplus yield model. The maximum sustainable yield is 46,228.04 tons inferred by equilibrium Schaefer model. The maximum sustainable yield is 39,109.44 tons inferred by equilibrium Fox model. The maximum sustainable yield is 36,788.57 tons inferred by non-equilibrium production model.Overfishing occurred in gill net with main engine power 151-200kW and gillnet with main engine power below 50 kW in 2022.The current resource stock is below the warning line of 20%of the initial resource quantity, therefore, catch should be limited in order to rebuild stock.Considering the need to maintain the stability of fishery production and rebuild stocks,it is recommended that the total allowable catch be set at 150 thousand tons per year in for the next five years.Fishing effort should be controlled that input by gillnet with main engine power below 50kW in juvenile breeding reserves in the Northern South China Sea to promote the protection of recruitment.Basic research on fishery biology of Lagocephalus and artificial releasing techniques are needed to develop.
