Research on the protective development of China's maritime underwater cultural heritage
The maritime underwater cultural heritage under Chinese jurisdiction is abundant and widely distributed, with high developmental value. The implementation of protective development for maritime underwater cultural heritage is conducive to better harnessing its cultural inheritance function, promoting marine economic development, and diversifying the sources of conservation funding.Drawing upon international cases such as the underwater archaeological preserves in Florida, the Marine Heritage Trail in the Cayman Islands, the Aqaba Marine Park and surrounding cultural sites in Jordan, the underwater relics of the Saipan Island battle in the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Tyre Coast Nature Reserve in Lebanon, this study proposes strategies for synergizing the conservation and tourism development of China's maritime underwater cultural heritage. These strategies include the establishment of a system of marine archaeological parks, strengthening maritime underwater cultural heritage surveys, exploring methods for appropriate tourism-oriented management of maritime underwater cultural heritage, initiating pilot demonstrations for protective tourism development, and enhancing policy support.
