A large number of studies have shown that natural products possess a wide variety of biological activities on the intestinal microflora, which may affect the composition of the intestinal microflora, the content of metabolites of the intestinal microflora and the integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier. At the same time, the intestinal microflora produces a variety of enzymes, which can affect the bioavailability, pharmacological and toxicological activities of active components of natural products. The interaction between natural products and the intestinal microflora is crucial for host health and disease treatment. This review summarizes the molecular mechanisms of the interaction between natural products and the intestinal microflora according to the structural types of active ingredients of natural products, providing a reference for further research on how natural products play a role in treating diseases by regulating gut microbiota.
