Silymarin possesses the protective effect on hepatocytes from injuries, but its low intestinal permeability, poor water solubility and low oral bioavailability limit its clinical application to a large extent. In recent years, various drug delivery technologies have improved the bioavailability, controlled and sustained release of silymarin, achieved drug targeting and toxicity reduction, and made silymarin more widely applicable. In this paper, the research progresses and existing problems on silymarin drug delivery technologies in recent years are statistically sorted out from the perspective of carriers. The results show that there are many studies on drug delivery systems such as liposomes, lipid nanoparticl, emulsions(including self-microemulsifying drug delivery systems and nanoemulsions),polymer carriers(including chitosan and polymer micelles),inorganic nanocarriers(including iron nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles, and silicon nanoparticles),protein carriers and hydrogels, which provides a certain reference for the development of silymarin.
