Human parvovirus B19(B19V)is a small non-enveloped single-stranded DNA(ssDNA)virus of the family Parvoviridae, which is prevalent in the population.B19V can be transmitted through the respiratory tract, blood, placenta, etc.,and then cause infectious erythema in children, aplastic crisis, hydrops fetalis, intrauterine fetal death, among others. This article mainly reviews the nature and diagnosis of B19V from the aspects of genotype, protein expression, infection mechanism and laboratory detection technology,to provide more information about its biological characteristics, which may help researchers have deeper understanding of the virus as well as application and development of detection methods.
