Study on the association between glucose variability of patients with diabetes mellitus and traditional Chinese medicine syndrome
Objective:To explore the association between glucose variability and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods:Glucose variability was evaluated by continuous glucose monitoring system, meanwhile TCM syndrome classification and cumulative scores were conducted in hospitalized patients with DM,and then multivariate linear regression was used to analyze the correlation between glucose variability parameters and TCM syndrome score. Results:The current study preformed 72 DM patients.Linear regression results showed that the score of yin deficiency syndrome(P=0.023),yang deficiency syndrome(P=0.032)and blood stasis syndrome(P=0.003)were significantly and positively correlated with the mean amplitude of glycemic excursion(MAGE),respectively, and the regression coefficients B were 0.141,0.109 and 0.134,respectively.The scores of yang deficiency syndrome(P=0.018)and blood stasis syndrome(P=0.000)were positively correlated with the standard deviation of 24 h blood glucose, respectively, and the regression coefficients B were 0.052 and 0.071,respectively.The scores of yang deficiency syndrome(P=0.045)and blood stasis syndrome(P=0.011)were significantly positively correlated with the mean absolute difference in the mean of daily differences, and the regression coefficients B were 0.059 and 0.069,respectively.The scatter diagram showed that MAGE presented a linear positive correlation trend with the score of TCM syndromes including the total score of TCM syndrome, yin deficiency syndrome, yang deficiency syndrome and blood stasis syndrome roughly, among which the diagram of MAGE and the score of blood stasis syndrome showed the most concentrated scattered degree of the points. Conclusion:Glucose variability may be correlated to the TCM syndromes in DM patients. The glucose variability may be related to the yin deficiency, yang deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, among which blood stasis syndrome may be the most closely relative.
