Astronomical calendar background of ten celestial stems and twelve terrestrial branches in Huangdi Neijing
This article explored the astronomical calendar background of ten celestial stems and twelve terrestrial branches.The theoretical support of ten celestial stems was ten days.Five was core theory in earth.Five directions were corresponding to five elements,five internal organs and five movements.The ten celestial stems and generation-inhibition in five elements were important to life.Ten days in ten celestial stems were recorded by the models of Yuetinajia diagram and Hetu Luoshu.The twelve terrestrial branches were recorded as twelve months.Six was the core theory in heaven.The twelve terrestrial branches were corresponding to the three powers(heaven,earth,and man)and Sizheng,which called as Bazheng.Chou,Wei,Shen,Xu belonged to Sizheng in earth(Didao)which were not dominant time,the end of the four seasons.The model of twelve terrestrial branches was Taiji diagram generated by the movement of the sun at tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.The yin and yang characteristics of ten celestial stems and twelve terrestrial branches were classified as follows:Jia,Bing,Wu,Ren(odd number)were yang stems;Yi,Ding,Ji,Xin,Gui(even number)were yin stems in 10 celestial stems;Zi,Yin,Chen,Wu,Shen,Xu(odd number)were yang branches;Chou,Mao,Si,Wei,You,Hai(even number)were yin branches.Six was the core theory in heaven,and corresponding to six pathogens,so three powers(heaven,earth,and man)were all had six pathogens.Scientifically deciphering the essence of solar and lunar eclipses through the assimilation.
