Mechanism of acupuncture on the treatment of autism spectrum disorder
Autism spectrum disorder(ASD)is a group of early-onset neurodevelopmental disorders.Studies have shown that acupuncture can effectively alleviate ASD symptoms,and its mechanism has been further studied.This paper summarizes the mechanism of acupuncture in treating ASD and showing that the mechanism are mainly related to regulating neurotransmitters,such as arginine vasopressin(AVP),oxytocin(OXT),and serotonin levels,up-regulating the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),improving neuronal function and plasticity includes nerve impulse conduction,improving the morphological structure of synapses,and regulating the expression of synapse-associated proteins,inhibiting neuronal apoptosis,inhibiting inflammatory reaction includes inhibiting the excessive activation of microglia and the release of inflammatory factors,resisting oxidative damage,regulating energy metabolism in brain,and regulating brain-gut axis function.By summarizing the molecular functional pathways,the article also hypothesized that acupuncture exerts its efficacy mainly by acting on synaptic signal binding.
