The essence of qi,which involves the core theory of traditional Chinese medicine and the mystery of traditional culture,is the key and difficult problem of the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine.This article summarizes four arguments in the study of the essence of qi:the debate between philosophical thinking qi and objective existence qi,the debate between material qi and functional qi,the debate between substantive material qi and non substantive material qi,and the debate on the essence of non substantive material qi.Based on this,a review of the study of the essence of qi is conducted.This paper believes that with the in-depth study of the three-layer material theory of innovative qi theory,and through the combination of inward observation and empirical method,it is expected to achieve a breakthrough in the study of the essence of qi and promote the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.
