Visceral diseases usually accompany with hyperaesthesia phenomenon on the specific parts of the body surface. These parts are also the loci of sensitized acupoints.Meanwhile,in the acupoint sensitization attribute, pressing on acupoints make pleasure sensation and the behavior of individuals actively pursuing massage and scratching, which may be involved with itch sensation. The newly discovered peripheral itch receptor, dorsal root ganglion neurons which express Mas-gene-related G protein-coupled receptors A3(Mrgpra3),may be related to the'pleasure'characteristics of the acupoints. These types of receptors are activated during visceral lesions, manifested as inducible itching sensitization, which prompts us to crave stimulation to regulate function.Investigating the dynamic process of itch receptor activation and its correlation with the'opening-closing'attributes of acupuncture points induced by referred hyperaesthesia will provide new avenues for exploring the self-stimulatory healing process triggered by acupoint sensitization.
