Analysis of LI Dongyuan's formulation theory of tonifying and purging in taste and changing air at any time
Treatise on Spleen and Stomach is one of LI Dongyuan's core works and also the cornerstone of the theory of the spleen and stomach in traditional Chinese medicine. In this book,LI Dongyuan formally proposed the prescription theory of tonifying and purging in taste and changing air at any time. This theory emphasizes adjusting the warm, cool, cold and heat of drugs according to the changes of the seasons in the prescription. When prescribing,it pays attention to grasping the compatibility of the five flavors of drugs, which are sour, bitter, sweet, spicy and salty. This is not only the inheritance of the theory of Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor,it also has important clinical significance. However, some doctors in the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine pay more attention to the meridian returning effect of drugs when prescribing, but ignore the important role of odor theory in the clinical formulation of traditional Chinese medicine. This paper analyzes LI Dongyuan's theory of tonifying and purging in taste and breathing at any time in detail,in order to benefit the clinic.
