Multicenter,randomized controlled study of the acupuncture combined with medicine for yin deficiency and yang deficiency constitution knee osteoarthritis patients
Objective:To explore the therapeutic effect difference of acupuncture combined with medicine for knee osteoarthritis with yin deficiency constitution and yang deficiency constitution.Methods:Using the central randomization method,128 patients were randomly divided into control group,electroacupuncture group,Chinese herb group and electroacupuncture combined with Chinese herb group,based on their different constitutions of yin deficiency and yang deficiency.The control group received no intervention except for taking painkillers as needed.The electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture treatment,the Chinese herb group received oral treatment with Xi-Shao herb pair,and the combination group received electroacupuncture and herbal medicine orally.The treatment course was all 4 weeks.Western Ontario and McMaster universities osteoarthritis index(WOMAC),knee joint swelling,Visual Analog Scale(VAS),general anxiety disorder-7(GAD-7),Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI),constitution score and serum cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cAMP)/cyclic guanosine monophosphate(cGMP)content were compared before and after treatment.Results:After treatment,in patients,the WOMAC,VAS,and constitution scores of the yin deficiency constitution combination group were lower than those of the Chinese herb group(P＜0.05),and cAMP/cGMP increased compared to before treatment(P＜0.05).The WOMAC,VAS,and constitution scores of the yang deficiency constitution electroacupuncture group and the combination group were lower than those of the Chinese herb group(P＜0.05),and cAMP/cGMP increased compared to before treatment(P＜0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture combined with Chinese herb has an evident effect on patients with knee osteoarthritis,and electroacupuncture combined with Chinese herb is more effective for patients with yin deficiency constitution,while electroacupuncture treatment and electroacupuncture combined with Chinese herb treatment has similar effect for patients with yang deficiency constitution,both of which can significantly improve the pain symptoms of patients.
