There are six acupoints named after the Chinese character'fu',namely'Zhongfu(LU1)','Tianfu(LU3)','Shufu(K27)','Shaofu(HT8)','Fushe(SP13)'and'Fengfu(GV16)'in the fourteen meridians.Further systematization reveals that there are acupoints named after'men'adjacent to the corresponding acupoints of'fu'.The fact that the'fu'and'men'acupoints are inseparably but inextricably linked, indicates a deeper intrinsic connection in which'fu'means gathering, and'men'means guarding. This paper attempts to explore the meaning behind the names of the'fu'and'men'acupoints, with the hope of providing a new perspective for the development of clinical thinking and understanding of original Chinese medical theory, using comprehensively Chinese characters and other excellent traditional Chinese cultural knowledge, and combing with classical Chinese medical literature and modern research.
