The traditional middle finger binding method is optimized for the symptoms of acute hordeolum.Based on the ancient literature and modern research,the therapeutic efficacy and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)mechanism of the method of tying threads on the middle finger for the treatment of acute hordeolum are discussed.It is concluded that this method has good efficacy in acute hordeolum and can effectively relieve the discomfortable symptoms of redness,swelling,heat and pain in the eyes of the patients in the acute stage,in which the mechanism of medical science may be to regulate the function of the pericardium meridian and other meridians,so as to achieve the purpose of clearing away the heat and pathogenic qi and eliminating the swelling and relieving the pain.As a special external treatment method,the middle finger binding method has the advantages of simplicity,high efficiency,non-invasiveness,etc.It can play a better therapeutic role in treating acute hordeolum,and its mechanism of action is related to the meridian theory of TCM,which is worth to be promoted in clinical practice and in-depth study.
