The aromatic drug is fragrant,pungent and divergent,which can reach the five viscera and open the orifices.It is widely used in the ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology diseases of Shengji Zonglu,and plays an important role in'special medicine for special treatment'.There are two forms of the use of aromatic drug in prescription:main medicine and auxiliary medicine.For nasal diseases,it is used to clear the nasal cavity and relieve pain,ventilate the lung and dissipate evil,dissolve turbidity and eliminate dampness.For ear diseases,it is used to promote and clear the earhole,regulate qi and eliminate evil.For throat diseases,it is used to regulate qi and remove stasis,relieve swelling and pain.For oral-dental diseases,it is used to dissolve turbidity and dispel odor,warm-smooth and regulate qi,remove putridity and relieve swelling.For ocular diseases,it is used to regulate liver qi,dispel wind and heat,relieve swelling and pain.Due to the special location of the ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology diseases,the external treatments such as aromatic drug tamponade method,incense method are adopted.The'fragrance'of aromatic drug is used to enter the nasal cavity and fur,directly acting on the disease location.Furthermore,some aromatic drug also have special functions such as'guiding''stimulating'and'tonifying'.
