Tooth pain is one of the common oral diseases.Based on the physiological understanding of Huangdi Neijing that teeth belong to the kidney, bone, marrow and Yangming meridian, physicians in previous dynasties proposed that the etiology and pathogenesis of tooth pain are:kidney deficiency and marrow emptiness, evil spirits attacking wind and fire, and caries and insect erosion. They also established five therapeutic principles to treat tooth pain, namely, tonifying the kidney to strengthen tooth, dispersing wind and evil spirits, removing blood stasis for promoting tissue regeneration, clearing stomach and purging fire, and killing insects and pain.Compared with the modern oral medicine treatment methods, through the analysis of the prevention, treatment and prescription of traditional Chinese medicine in tooth pain,it is found that traditional Chinese medicine has its own unique advantages and significant efficacy in the use of aromatic drugs, traditional Chinese medicine gargle, percussion tooth health care, and acupuncture analgesia.
