Discussion on the treatment of depression from the'six stagnations'
Depression belongs to the category of'depression syndrome'in traditional Chinese medicine.Qi stagnation is the basic pathogenesis of depression.Qi depression affects the function of the viscera and the operation of qi,blood, and body fluids, leading to the secondary or concurrent occurrence of blood stagnation, fire stagnation, dampness stagnation, phlegm stagnation, and food stagnation. The accumulation of pathological products related to the six stagnations, such as phlegm turbidity, blood stasis, and water dampness, caused by various reasons,is the basis for the formation of many clinical symptoms. Therefore, depression can be treated based on the theory of'six stagnations',with regulating qi as the priority and simultaneously resolving various types of stagnation. For complex situations where various types of stagnation coexist,it is necessary to use methods such as promoting blood circulation and resolving stasis, purging fire and heat, eliminating dampness and phlegm, and resolving accumulation and stagnation based on the specific pathogenesis. In addition, the formation of dampness stagnation, phlegm stagnation, and food stagnation is closely related to the middle burner. Therefore,we must also pay attention to regulating the middle burner in the diagnosis and treatment of depression.
