The concept of'soliloquy'in modem diagnostics of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)can be integrated from ancient medical books.Doctors in previous dynasties had different understanding of its attribution or independence from delirium,Zhengsheng and other language abnormalities,as well as its belonging to yin syndrome or yang syndrome.Yin syndrome was not limited to the weakness of heart qi,depression of qi and phlegm resistance described in modem textbooks, but also manifested as deficiency of middle-jiao qi,heart yang,or spleen yang, and so on.Yang syndrome also ranged from mild heat to severe heat, which should be differentiated according to the concurrent symptoms. In addition to epilepsy and depression,'soliloquy'can also be seen in various diseases such as exogenous febrile disease, maniac disease and postpartum disease. For different pathogenesis, there are also therapies such as tonifying the heart and calming the nerves, warming heart yang, tonifying middle-jiao and qi,removing phlegm and blood stasis, clearing the heart and heat, purging fu and relieving heat, and aroma and avoiding filth, which should be treated according to the syndrome. Therefore, the research of'soliloquy'is conducive to the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases, and can also provide literature support for the improvement of the teaching content of TCM auscultation.
