The term'contralateral channel needling'originates from the Huangdi Neijing, which is one of the nine acupuncture techniques in ancient times. It is recorded in Huangdi Neijing that,'The eighth is the contralateral channel needling, the diseases on the left side are treated from the right side, and the diseases on the right side are treated from the left side',which makes it unique.Throughout ancient times, contralateral channel needling has a significant effect in the clinical practice, especially for severe chronic diseases. However,by reviewing the relevant literature,it is found that although contralateral channel needling is widely used in clinical practice, there is a lack of systematic discussion on its theory, and it is often confused with Miu-acupuncture.Therefore,based on Huangdi Neijing, this article will make a discussion on the origin, theoretical basis, operation characteristics and clinical application of contralateral channel needling,in order to provide more ideas and inspiration for doctors and lay the foundation for its better clinical application.
