The mind and will of Huangdi Neijing are fundamental components of the'five spirits'traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)consciousness theory,namely spirit,soul,inferior spirit,mind and will.The'five spirits'are the basic content of consciousness in TCM and are crucial to the theory of consciousness in TCM.However,it is regrettable that there of clear explanation and analysis within academic circles regarding the conceptual connotation,diseases involved,and clinical treatment related to mind and will.Through a literature review,this article clarifies the conceptual connotation of mind and will:they are abstract cognitive activities generated by the mind's reception of external information.Both mind and will represent high-level cognitive functions.Mind belongs to relatively short-term cognition and memory while will relates to deep-seated stable cognition and long-term memory.As a higher-order cognitive activity,intention exerts commanding various mental activities as well as dominantly affects bodily functions.It holds a significant position in human life activities'operation.The concept of'Zhi'in Huangdi Neijing essentially aligns with the modern notion of'spirit'.
