Baclofen-induced status epilepticus in a patient with chronic kidney disease
A 75-year-old patient with stage 5 chronic kid-ney disease on long-term dialysis took normal dose of baclofen for hiccup after admission. After the first dose of baclofen, the patient experienced increased dizziness and convulsions, and after the fourth dose, the patient developed consciousness disorders. The doctor considered that the patient's condition was directly linked to baclofen intake, necessitating immedi-ate blood perfusion treatment.During the process of blood perfusion, the patient presents with epilepsy like symptoms combined with persistent absence, and the dynamic electroen-cephalogram indicates epilepsy. In this case,we believe that the condition is toxic metabolic encephalopathy and status epi-lepticus triggered by baclofen. After continuous hemodialy-sis,the patient regained consciousness and was discharged after epilepsy control.
