Role of levetiracetam in the treatment of glioblastoma and research advances
As the most common primary malignant tumor in central nervous system(CNS),glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)presents great therapeutic challenges with a poor overall prognosis and a short median survival. In recent years, levetiracetam,as a novel antiepileptic agent, not only controls epilepsy, but also displays other pharmacological properties for glioblastoma, such as prolonging survival and improving cognition. Therefore levetiracetam has become a research hotspot of treating GBM.This review summarized the latest researches of diverse pharmacological effects of levetiracetam to provide references for managing GBM patients and developing novel drugs.
