A Critical Metaphor Analysis of the Chinese Diplomatic Discourse from the Perspective of National Image Construction
National image is the overall cognition and evaluation of a country's internal and external public on its behavior,activities,and achievements,etc.,which reflects its comprehensive strength and influence to a large extent.In this paper,the authors,based on the Corpus of Chinese Diplomatic Discourse,critically ana-lyze the metaphors in Chinese diplomatic discourse by applying the framework of CMA,aiming to explore how diplomatic discourse constructs national image through metaphors.It is found that there are many jour-ney metaphors and construction metaphors,for they are highly similar to the content and structure of China's ideology.Metaphor is widely employed in diplomatic discourse,thus we can provide some references for the construction of China's national image by utilizing the CMA model.
