Dialect Landscape and Souvenirs:From the Perspective of History,Geography and Economy
Economical utilization of dialect can be divided into two types.Typical of"buyable dialects"are di-alect souvenirs,such as dialect picture postcards and dialect hand towels,which were produced before World War Ⅱ.Currently,dialect cell phone straps and dialect badges are being produced.A typical example of"unbuyable dialect"is dialect naming,which has spread to shopping malls,shopping centers,and public fa-cilities since the end of the 20th century.Dialect message is also utilized recently.It has the function of crea-ting a sense of familiarity.Dialect landscapes appeared to be increasing,while changing their form.Howev-er,in the 2020s,there is also a trend toward a decrease compared to previous data.This may be a temporary phenomenon due to economic conditions,such as the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and the temporary stagnation of tourism due to the COVID-19 disaster starting in 2019.In this paper,we will discuss the con-tinued vitality of dialects based on data.To this end,we will synthesize a large amount of diverse data on dia-lectal landscapes collected over the past several decades.It will also be summarized theoretically.
